My handpainted Baphomet wallcloth

Category: General things, SatanismEmiel Kollof @ 11:52

My lovely wife went to town with her sowingmachine. It’s the same cloth/banner we used for our wedding ritual. Great to see it hanging on the wall in a proper way :)

Rules and Satanism

Category: Satanism, religionEmiel Kollof @ 18:37

rulesSomeone asked me something interesting about Satanism today. There was this wiccan girl who saw a contradiction between the Satanist’s disdain of rules and the 11 rules of the Earth. I explained it to her, but I liked my answer so much I decided to share it here.

So, yeah. Satanists have rules. There are the 11 rules of the Earth, which I will list:

1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.
5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.
7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
9. Do not harm little children.
10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

  10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
  11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

So, does a Satanist completely adhere to these rules? Yes and no. See it like this: You are supposed to stop for a red traffic light. That’s a rule. But, the world is not going to end if you run the light. If you do run that light, you are totally responsible and should not complain if you get busted and get cited, or when someone t-bones you. On the other hand, you can also stop for the light. But you can also run the light if the streets are really quiet and when there are no cops around.

I know, it’s a silly metaphor,  but it makes a point.

What is the Ninth Circle Alliance?

Category: Satanism, Site newsEmiel Kollof @ 11:04

Got some mail today from people that wanted to know what this Ninth Circle Alliance thing is. They go up on the site, see this forum and it is kinda difficult to get access. It’s not really transparent. So they mail me and ask me what’s up. Especially people that used to frequent its previous incarnation. I will explain in this blog post.

The Ninth Circle Alliance was first born to fill the gap that was left by the disbanding of the League of Independent Satanists. It had lofty goals. It wanted to unite everyone together again, without being an organisation. It was an open effort, accessible by all. It went well for a while, but then came the dreaded disk crash that cost me a lot of data. Since then I have been thinking a lot about what I wanted to do with the Ninth Circle Alliance. And this is what I came up with.

Being open for everyone doesn’t work anymore. Especially since many Left Hand Path-followers don’t like to be in the public. So the Ninth Circle Alliance will be a private group of people with similar interests and various skills. The thing you will see publicly is what the Alliance will produce (blogs, columns, websites, art galleries or whatever its contributors care to kick out into this world). There is some strict screening in place before someone will get access. You will be considered worthy if it’s members deem you worthy.

I think it will work better this way. This way there will be a more dedicated group of people that can stay hidden if they want to, and yet they can enrich themselves by interacting with likeminded people. The exclusivity will (hopefully) make the Ninth Circle Alliance more valuable.

Wow, that takes me back

Category: General things, Satanism, religionEmiel Kollof @ 16:04

Guess what I found? An old song I recorded for the now defunct League of Independent Satanists. I have many fond memories attached to this song. Here it is:

icon for podpress  Camp Satan [1:53m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

I wrote it several years ago. I recorded it with a cheap ass microphone, using audacity to mix everything together. And if you don’t like the lyrics, well screw you. :)

Apparently I am being saved… *shrug*

Category: General things, Satanism, religionEmiel Kollof @ 10:38

It appears I’m a blip on the religious-nut radar.

Oh goodie.

So I get spammed with fire and brimstone, and apparently I’m going to hell. And there are those losers that claim they have been to hell or heaven and came back. And there are those dickwads spamming me with stories of Satanic abuse and whatnot.

Nice.

Of course there are some people actually hoping I will burn in hell and that I will die quickly so I will get there quicker, and other assorted religious threats.

Nice way to show the so-called love of your so-called saviour, people.

And of course there are hordes of losers clasping their hands in prayer for me to change my ways.

Fantastic.

So, is it working? Not really.

First of all, no amount of prayer can change my mind (objective reasoning is probably a better bet, but I doubt religion can overcome simple common sense and logic), and it goes against their own rules (free will anyone?). And don’t get me started on the quality of the writings I have been blessed to receive. Apparently, being religious means you don’t need a spellchecker, nor any knowledge about the use of punctuation, nor having any clue what the caps-lock key does (and how to turn it off).

At least while they are bothering me, they are not bothering someone else. So yeah, thank me for that I guess.

(Addendum: if you are asking yourself why you don’t see religious nuts commenting; they seem to trigger my spam-filter on this blog a lot. Go figure)

Laveyan Satanism in a nutshell

Category: General things, Satanism, religionEmiel Kollof @ 23:55

Note: I did not write this. The original is here:  http://dasatanists.deviantart.com/art/Lavey-Satanism-in-a-nutshell-35360723

Satanism is often mistaken as being a religion that encourages cruelty and irresponsible behaviour, but LaVey’s brand is very different. There is a libertarian element; diversity is encouraged, everyone is expected to discover their own sexuality, chart their own personality, and decide their own ambitions in life. In this stress on individuality, Satanism is considered a “Left-Hand Path” religion.

The LaVeyan Satanist does not generally believe in the Judeo-Christian-Islamic idea of God; the function of God is performed and satisfied by the Satanist him/herself. That is, the needs of worship, ritual, and religious/spiritual focus are directed, effectively, inwards towards the Satanist, as opposed to outwards, towards God. A LaVeyan Satanist is likely to differ from other types of Satanist in this respect; in LaVey’s philosophy, God is rarely mentioned, and never discussed directly. A LaVeyan Satanist is less likely to hold a belief in God than a Satanist who sees Satan as a rival to God.

Satan is not a real, living entity, conscious or a physical thing that can be interacted with. It is a symbol, something ethereal, something that basically doesn’t exist except as an emotional attachment and personal dream. Just like Buddhists do not worship Buddha, Satanists hold up Satan as an ultimate principal rather than an object of literal worship. Satan inspires and provokes people, like all (honest) religions the ultimate point is self-help. God believers have a different opinion on what Satan is, but their opinion is a result of their religion. Satanism’s Satan is much more eclectic and multicultural than to be defined by Christianity or Islam.

Many people have asked why we don’t just call it Humanism, or Athiesm instead of Satanism?

It is not humanism because:

The starting point for understanding Satanic philosophy towards mankind and our place in the universe is the same as understanding the basics of the Humanistic world view. But Satanism is more than Humanism. Satanism is religious whereas Humanism is not due to the religious symbolism, ceremony, ritualistic and dogmatic aspects of Satanism. Humanism is thoroughly productive and down to Earth, an all-round force for goodness, intelligence, intelligent and non-mystical morality that is based on reason, not faith. As the basis of morality within Satanism, Humanism is very hard to fault aside from its lack of religious imagery and ritual. In the modern secular world, such things are not acknowledged as useful to all people. And indeed they’re not. Satanism cannot be arrived at through pure logic, unlike Humanism, as Satanism requires religious imagery and therefore requires the knowledge of previous religions. Culturally, without the legacy of “demonic” Human instinct given to us by self-denying religious philosophy and asceticism

It is not Athiesm because:

Both of them are Atheistic in Nature…  But, here is where we are not the same… Satanists claim themselves to be their own god, Atheists do NOT.  (Most times) Satanists do NOT have a problem bearing the name Satanist, Atheists refuse to have any label what so ever.  Satanists live a lifestyle which is outlined in The Satanic Bible (they do not follow it word by word, nor find it is the only place to get answers and feel they should only follow everything that is written in it, ect.), Atheists do NOT. To put it bluntly (seeing as how this is supposed to be a summary, not a long long essay), mere atheism does not have the sharp edge of Satanism.

Satanism is Satanism because:

Satanism inspires. The word and title of Satanism is part of that. All Satanists’ have personal reasons which are multiple and varied; Satanism thrives on individualism, personal reflection and non comformity. Everyone has their reasons. The concept of Satan is not the property of Christianity – modern monotheistic religions generally use the term Satan to describe their anti-God, but these concepts evolved from older pagan polytheistic concepts. Christianity overuses the term, but we do not accept their definition of Satan. The word Satan is not property of any Church! Least of all foreign ones! The word “Satan” originates from a transliteration of the Hebrew word “an opposer” or “an accuser”: And therefore a Satanist is someone who follows this route – the opposition. Like the Shadow Government we do not endorse the status quo unless we can justify it for ourselves. The word Satan became to mean opposition to the Church, to the Holy Church, not through our own actions but through the actions of those who wished to rule over us in the name of a fictitious God. Linguistically we have always been Satanists. It is incredibly useful to us that the dumb, bigoted and ignorant will presume that a Satanist is an immature person who sneaks around graveyards at night time because it allows us to immediately filter out a whole set of people who are not ready (and may never be) to perceive us. Finally: It sounds good. It allows the rebel to rebel, and yet remain logical and factual. It allows those who become dissatisfied with their faith to defect and revel in truth rather than descend into petty faith crime, or self deluded “sin”. It is a net to catch the elite who see past what they were presented with.

It is a common Christian misconception that Satanism and Paganism are the same.  I know this because I see Pagan’s being called devil worshippers just the same.  It is a label that sheep use for what they don’t understand, and refuse to open their eyes and see.  Paganism is more Deistic in nature, as opposed to Atheistic, in that they claim a “higher power”.  Whether it is the god, or Goddess, or what ever they want, they believe in a higher power, and the Satanist does NOT.  Satanists claim to be their own god, and holding nothing and no ONE above them spiritually.  Pagan’s try to be kind and hot harm people, where as a Satanist is polite by nature but if wronged can be the most deadly creature on the planet.

Satanism can be considered to be:

Not dualistic: souls and bodies are indivisible and there is no war between cosmic good and cosmic evil Autodeists – we worship ourselves. The only God we can ever perceive is in our own existential world. We are each a God.

Materialistic:  A “human potential” movement. Striving for longer life and a better education.

Science and technology are necessary. We who walk this dark path along with the same interests will pursue the elimination of Human limitation to the maximum Of the left hand path Opposition of religions, especially those that hold a belief in an afterlife. Satanism is an un-religion. Satanism adopts the adversaries of major religions as its standard bearers.

Lavey Satanists do not murder children, or kill animals as they are considered the purest form of life there is. Also they do not do weird things to virgins. Lavey Satanists do not burn down churches either. Why should they risk their necks just to burn down a handy place to put Christians?

There is no standard for what a Satanist is supposed to be like; the only requirement to be a Satanist is to live like one. This is a very open-minded and diverse religion and not all satanists follow what has been said here. The encouragement of diversity and individuality is what makes this such a fine religion.

We’re a dying breed…

Category: General things, Satanism, religionEmiel Kollof @ 10:25

This is getting a bit worrysome. Where are all the Satanists? I know there are here, around us, just doing their thing, but where are the proud ones that dare to proclaim loudly that they are a Satanist? Where are those brazen individuals that don’t care what society thinks of them? And I don’t mean those pubescent brats that want to shock their theistic peers, and most certainly not those inverse christian kooks that give modern Satanism a bad name.I’m talking about those rational freethinking iconoclasts out there that have taken on the Satanic identity and feel that it fits them nicely.

I would like to say to the real Satanists that happen on this place; Why are you hiding? What the fuck are you all afraid of? Where have you all gone? The scene used to be so vibrant, with lots of interesting people coming out of the woodwork. And now? There is almost nothing. Only a few people that I know are public and active Satanists. I know there are many more. Don’t hide, be proud! Let the sheep bow to us! We are the highest embodiment of life, for we are Satanists!

Hail Satan!

Satanism, an explanation.

Category: Satanism, religionEmiel Kollof @ 13:31

Just for the people who don’t know me that well: I am a Satanist. Unfortunately, that label has a lot of stigmas attached to it. A friend of mine once wrote this small essay about this very subject, and I tend to agree with the definitions used therein. For the people who don’t like to read large pieces of text, a small abridged version:

  • I don’t believe in gods, and therefore also not in devils. So to equate Satanism with devil-worship is plainly uninformed stupidity.
  • I don’t believe in an afterlife.
  • I do not put much value in fantasies like spirits, ghosts and other new-age claptrap.
  • I don’ t worship anything but myself.
  • I do not drink blood.
  • I do not sacrifice or harm animals or humans.
  • As an exception to the above statement, I will kill/maim/harm in self defense or to protect what I hold dear.
  • I couldn’t care less about your or anyones gender-preference.
  • I am capable of love, hell, I’m married to a woman I love dearly.
  • I am also very capable of hate. And I don’t make a secret of that.
  • Yes, I am an egoist. I do place myself first in all decisions that I make.
  • Yes, I am sceptical about all religions, even my own (Satanism).
  • Yes, I do practice Satanic magic. (Confused? Read on)

Still curious? Ok. If you want to know more, read on.
